M3 Transportation Management
How do your employees get to work?
Transportation and traffic are key quality of life issues in the M3 region. Middlesex 3 Coalition’s Transportation Management Association (TMA) allows you to support your employees’ commuting choices, no matter their mode of transportation.
The Middlesex 3 Transportation Management Association (“M3 TMA”) has been formed to address transportation issues in the region which includes the communities of Bedford, Billerica, Burlington, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Lowell, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough, Westford, and Woburn.

Regional Shuttles
Improving transportation infrastructure is a target issue for the Coalition, and Middlesex 3 is committed to advocating for and assisting with the development of a robust regional transportation system. The M3 TMA is a public-private partnership that increases mobility options around the region. One component of the TMA is a shuttle from the MBTA (at Alewife Station) to stops within the M3 region.
What is a TMA?
A Transportation Management Association (TMA) is a partnership between businesses, developers, residential locations and communities. Together we work to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution by improving transportation options in our region.
Who is eligible to participate?
Membership in the Middlesex 3 TMA is open to any public or private business, educational institution, or residential complex within the M3 Corridor service area. You don’t have to be a Middlesex 3 Coalition member, but our members do receive reduced rates on TMA membership and corporate shuttle rentals through TransAction Associates.
e-Commuter Carpooling
Joining the M3 TMA gives your employees access to the e-Commuter database and app. Employees use the app for free, and it matches them with others looking for rides near both their origin and destination stops.
Emergency Ride Home
Another benefit of e-Commuter is a guaranteed ride home if needs change in the middle of the day. Whether your employee is the driver or a passenger in the carpool, e-Commuter will reimburse them for the cost of a cab ride home if something comes up unexpectedly, like a family emergency or needing to work late.
Bigger Pool, Smarter Matching
e-commuter users come from towns all around the Greater Boston area and work at companies throughout the region. This opens the pool of potential carpoolers beyond just your employees, allowing them to match with someone who works down the street or at a different employer in your same building. The database allows users to set how far out of their way they’re willing to go, match preferred schedules, and set up neutral pick up and drop off points if they choose.
Promote Biking to Work
M3 TMA members can also encourage biking to work with the Bike Buddy program. This program matches riders with similar origin and destination points to cycle to work together.
Why Bike with a Buddy?
Cycling in traffic can be intimidating, especially for new bike commuters. The Bike Buddy program matches riders to assist with finding the safest way to work. Plus biking in a group has been shown to be safer than biking alone.
